Welcome to my new blog! If you don’t already know me, my name is Bethany and you can go ahead right up there and click Who the Hell Am I to find out a little bit more. Go ahead. I’ll wait…. Okay? Cool!

Based on the blog name, you would think that this is going to be about running and wine. And it IS! YOU WERE RIGHT! Doesn’t that feel good? But it’s also going to be about other stuff. Like, whatever I want cause it’s my blog! Probably life, my boyfriend, my kids and sports. Who knows? It will be such an adventure.

I just wanted to take this time to say hello, and thank you for stopping by. I do appreciate it  and I’m going to do my best to make every trip here worth it. I’m open to any and all ideas for posts, features, product review, wines to try, books to read, cliffs to jump off of, whatever.

So let’s get cracking!

As I previously mentioned (if you read Who the Hell Am I), I spent most of my life not loving running. I did it if I had to (trains to catch, cops to evade, etc) but it was a run borne of need and not desire. Every chance I had, I did not run.  I didn’t understand people who did run. I was raised in a culture that invented the remote control, escalators, and moving walk ways. Industries are built around our love of not even not running but barely frigging walking.

I was a smoker, I drank too much, and I ate like crap. I hated vegetables. HATED them. I ordered food or went out. And when I did cook at home, it was Hamburger Helper or fish stick sandwiches (these are actually tasty as all get out. Take five fish sticks, a slice of american cheese and two pieces of bread. Smoosh and eat. Heaven) or some other sodium laden boxed monstrosity.

Then I met my partner in crime, my boyfriend, my baby daddy… Casey. He was Mr. Health Freak Have a Salad Go To The Gym I Work Out. And I was all That’s Cute Where’s My Cigarettes. But we made it work. And then we made a baby. So bye bye smoking, hello spinach. Casey spent my entire pregnancy showing me that foods that are good for you can be tasty, and that working out can feel good. It was a revelation.

I started running as part of my post-baby get back in shape regime. It was just a part of my workout. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it, either. Then a woman at work challenged me to run The Great Race with her. I love me a challenge. THAT’S when it happened. I got off the treadmill and hit the streets to get ready for the 10K, and I fell head over heels with running.

Me and my post race beer. WHAT? It's actually good for you. So there. You can't say I don't look happy.

I smiled (and huffed and wheezed) during my first 1.5 run. 1.5 turned to 2, turned to 4, turned to 6 and I never stopped smiling. Not once. I run in the rain. In single digit temperatures. When it’s beating down sun and in the 90s. Even when I REALLY don’t want to, I know that the second my feet hit the street, I will be grinning like a loon. I’m up to 8.5 miles for my long run and training for my first half. And I can’t wait.

And I think that’s enough for now. I would keep going, but honestly, it’s time for my run.

  1. Woot woot! Love the blog title, too!

  2. The heck with the running, I’m just so happy you quit smoking. Any secrets there? I don’t smoke, but my g/f Pinky does. She says she’s good at quitting because she’s done it over and over again. I remain unamused.

    • Full disclosure: I will still have a cigarette here and there when I’m out with my smoking friends. It’s really hard to quit, that’s no lie. I wish her the best of luck!

  3. Two of my favorite subjects written by one of my 3 favorite bloggers. How could I not love this?

  4. I do love the post race beer/wine/alcoholic beverage. Most of the races I’ve done even give you one free at the finish line!

Good luck with your half marathon training!

  5. Thought I left a comment yesterday but maybe not?? Glad to see your new blog!
