Who the hell am I?

Thanks for stopping by! My name is Bethany, and I love writing, wine, running, my family and my friends. Not always in that order. I have two gorgeous sons and an incredibly handsome boyfriend. We live in Pittsburgh, the best city in the world. I am a public relations professional and a wine-slugging amateur writer. I didn’t always run. I used to aggressively avoid running. I’m talking if a bear was after me, I would probably turn around and take my chances. I was the exact opposite of healthy. I smoked, I drank too much (some may say I still do. To those people I say hush), and I didn’t spend one minute thinking about my health. Then one day I didn’t want to be that person anymore. I put down the smokes, put on my shoes, and hit the road. And I haven’t looked back.

5K, check. 10K, check. I am currently training for my first half. After that I’m going to run a whole. And after that, an ultra. After pushing my body to the extreme in a bad way, I am now seeing if I can reverse years of neglect and whip this ass in shape to run a 50 mile race. All while maintaining my wine addiction. This should be a trip!

    • Oooh! GOOD LUCK! I have one in March and one in May, then I start sniffing out a whole. Maybe we can plan a half trip and drag your cousin out to root us on!

      • Now I remember I posted on your intro, and not the first blogpost…oh well, I’m just all over your stuff!!

Let’s find someplace fabulous to give us a reason to travel to for a half marathon! I am not sure I’ll ever do the whole, but good luck to you, sounds like you are almost there. Good luck on your races coming up!

  2. I’m doing a sprint triathlon in August, haven’t done one since 1998. Wish me luck and add that to your list!!!

  3. I’m running again after a long-ago botched foot surgery. I did four miles on the treadmill this afternoon and that’s a record for me. Ima check in here for some inspiration! Also? I think Pittsburgh is awesome too, though I’ve only visited.

  8. I too have left cigarettes behind but find myself with wine more often than before. It’s better than the crappy whiskey though! The last few days, I keep thinking I might want to smoke cigarettes again and then I remember that it’s an evil mind trick that they play on me. I’m glad I came across this- all the more reason to remember that I feel awesome now, and that’s what counts. 🙂

  12. Best of luck on that. Sounds like a worthy goal. Just make sure to protect your knees. One of my BFFs trained for a marathon in her late 20s and then couldn’t run for a couple of years since she shot her knees.

  14. Ah yes, I love wine, I try to run as often as I can (have managed two half marathons) and I used to smoke. Some people think I drink too much wine too, but I find that concept hard to grasp. Too much wine? Really?

  15. I love this because I’m currently the person you were explaining transitioning into the person you are. I’m a writer–it’s what I graduated with a degree in–and as soon as I complete my first pregnancy, the only things I’ve been looking forward to (aside from meeting my daughter) is drinking wine again and running my ass, and stomach, off.

I would’ve done it anyway, but it’s so good to know in advance that a wine addiction, being a mother, and running is all still possible.
